10,000 Women Participated in ‘1 Million Women Purple Walk’ in Melaka

Last Sunday (17 March 2013 ), there was program of 1 Million Women Purple Walk in Malaysia in conjunction with the celebration of ‘International Women Day’. The program took place simultaneously across the country. The theme for this year is ‘ The Gender Agenda : Gaining Momentum’.

In Melaka, the program was held in Banda Hilir, at the Declaration of Independence Memorial. 10,000 people especially women of various ages and races joined the program. All participants need to wear purple. Puple t-shirts were given free to those who came early. Although it was about women, many men joined in as well to support the  1 Million Women Purple Walk program.

The ‘1 Million Women Purple Walk’ in Melaka started as early 7 am. The people come joined he aerobic session. At about 8.30 am, Chief Minister of Melaka, YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam officiated the program and gave a speech  Then, all of them walked   from the Declaration of Independence Memorial to the Stadthyus building and it ended at Dataran Pahlawan.  The ‘walk’ was about 2.5 kilometers.

Majlis Perasmian Menara Persekutuan , Melaka oleh YAB Perdana Menteri Malaysia

Pada 8 Mac 2013 , YAB Perdana Menteri Melaka telah melakukan lawatan kerja ke Melaka. Pada lawatan tersebut terdapat banyak aktiviti yang dijalankan antaranya beliau menyaksikan pemeteraian perjanjian persefahaman (MoU) bagi pembinaan rumah mampu milik di bawah Projek Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) antara Yayasan Melaka dan PR1MA Berhad. Projek tersebut yang mensasarkan rakyat berpendapatan sederhana di kawasan bandar di negeri ini bakal melibatkan kawasan berkeluasan 299.5 hektar di kawasan Parlimen Bukit Katil. Menurut Pengerusi PR1MA Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis, harga setiap unit rumah tersebut adalah 20 peratus lebih rendah berbanding harga pasaran.

Kampung Morten – A Living Museum In the Middle of Melaka town

Do you want to see a village in Melaka town? Melaka has a Malay village located right in the middle of this historic city, called Kampung Morten (in malay, Kampung means Village). The village is named after JF Morten, a British Land Commissioner when the commission was established in the early 1920s. Morten was involved in the development of this village, which was used to be a mangrove swamp. Othman Mohd Noh was credited as the founder of this village.

Kampung Morten is located next to the Melaka River, the one which is popular with its Melaka River Cruise. For those who took the ride on the Melaka River Cruise, you will get an brief history of Kampung Mortern by the narrator.
